Makam Echahid

The Makam Echahid is one of the most prominent monuments in the city. It commemorates the sacrifice made by the unknown martyr who fell for his country. This monument was built by the Canadians in the early 1980s and is made of three huge concrete palm fronds that come together at a point of 92 m above the ground. It stands for the fusion of agriculture, culture, and industry that makes sovereign Algeria a great nation.

Below the base of the monument is the Musée National du Moudjahid. Where on  Friday and Saturday afternoons families gather at the open plaza surrounding it to hosts concerts, events, exhibitions. The plaza also has a children’s fairground.
