Bardo Museum of Prehistory & Ethnography

The Bardo museum is one of the most well-known museums in Algiers and holds a vast collection of prehistoric Algerian artifacts. Visitors of the museum get educated through videos, models and excellent diagrams and information panels (in French).

This information is mostly ecological and explains the climate change Algeria had endured over eons and the effect it had on human and wildlife development. A wide display of fossils, Neolithic pottery, rock carvings and examples of Neanderthal paintings from the Sahara is present in the museum.

Emerging from the museum you’ll find the ‘Summer Palace’ – a palace built in the Ottoman era with courtyards, fountains and sub-tropical gardens. This palace was built in the same compound of the museum and an entry ticket to the museum also grants access to the palace.
